The Netherlands is once again becoming a champion of environmental protection and one of the countries willing to achieve an ambitious goal. As well as aiming to completely eliminate fuel-powered cars, the Netherlands also aims to recycle as much plastic as possible in the coming years. The Dutch are encouraged to recycle plastic bottles by receiving money for every bottle they throw away at special recycling machines.
If you have obtained a job through DB Work and are already working in the Netherlands, then this information will be useful to you.
If you live in the Netherlands and didn't already know about this law passed by the Dutch government, get ready to recycle your plastic bottles because it's in your interest to do so. Since last summer, those who choose to recycle plastic bottles are rewarded with 15 cents. This money can be used for shopping in supermarkets, gas stations or special shops. At the time, the project also included plastic bottle collection stations at train stations. We are now at that stage of the project.
By the end of the year, all passengers who are used to traveling by train will finally be able to dispose of their plastic bottles at such a collection station so as not to lose their 15 cents. The important advantage is that for each bottle, the 15 cents will be transferred directly to your bank account via a mobile app called Tikkie.
So far, those who get off at Utrecht station or pass through the station every day, have certainly noticed that such a machine has appeared at the station and it does all the functions that a plastic bottle collection machine should do. By the end of the year, four more such machines should be installed in Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Eindhoven, and The Hague.
The machines have a smart QR code scanning system. All you have to do is pull out your phone, open the app, scan and insert the plastic bottles. It's even more convenient for those traveling to save some extra cash and get discounts on supermarket shopping. Also, if you don't usually buy a lot of plastic bottles, but still want to support this recycling practice, the app also gives you the option to transfer the money directly to a good cause.
After installing the collection device, the company released some data on how many bottles are thrown away daily at the Utrecht station. To encourage recycling, NS revealed that more than 11,000 plastic bottles are thrown into the station's bins. They hope the installation of the machines will drastically reduce plastic waste and encourage people to be more environmentally friendly.
Are you a supporter of this initiative and want to live in a healthier environment? If you live in the Netherlands, the changes over the next few weeks will certainly help you save even some of the money you used to spend on water, juice, or soft drinks that come in plastic bottles.
