What general rules of conduct and safety employees follow in the Netherlands

DB Work offers many advantages for every employee who signs an employment contract with a Dutch employer. One of the most appreciated benefits by employees is that DB Work provides them with accommodation in the Netherlands, so they don't have to worry about costs or where they will stay.

From the very first day an employee arrives in the Netherlands, they will be introduced to accommodation where they will live with one or more colleagues who are also DB Work employees. The fact that they do not live alone, but have flatmates, implies, as you would expect, some rules of conduct.

Rules and behavior tips

There are a set of rules that are mandatory to follow in DB Work accommodation. These are part of the rules of common sense, respect and living with other employees who want to grow in their career in all aspects.

From the moment a person has arrived at the accommodation provided by DB Work, they must know that:

  • Smoking or consumption of prohibited substances is not allowed.
  • Not only colleagues but also neighbours might be disturbed by the noise.
  • The company car provided by DB Work will only be parked in special parking spaces.
  • No things or items will be taken from the home or moved from one house to another.

Furthermore, throwing cigarette butts, rubbish or other rubbish on the ground, in the garden or on the balcony is not allowed.

Security rules

Security rules are very important for the safety of those living in DB Work homes. The homes are equipped with all the appropriate emergency safety systems and equipment to avoid any disaster or accident. Therefore, there is a fire extinguisher in the kitchen to be used only if necessary, the house is equipped with a smoke detector and a fire blanket is provided in each house for undesirable situations when a person is trapped under the threat of flames.

Energy and environment tips

When it comes to energy consumption and the rules that keep a lifestyle as efficient as possible, the DB Work team advises employees to apply some very simple rules, which the Dutch also follow strictly.

  • If you are going to leave your home for several hours, set the thermostat of your heating system to a maximum of 15 degrees. When you return home, you can set it back to a comfortable temperature. This will avoid unnecessary consumption of heating energy.
  • When the heating is on, avoid opening windows as the heat generated by the heating system will be lost.
  • If there are excessive (very high) costs, and the reasons are due to employee consumption, electricity, gas or water charges will be paid by the employees.
  • No oil, grease, toxic liquids, paint or other liquids will be flushed down the sink or toilet.

What you do when you encounter a problem

For emergencies, DB Work employees always have access to emergency numbers so they can call both social and security services and the DB Work Support team. Here are the numbers you can call depending on your situation:

  • 0800-3362733 - DB Work Support Team
  • 112 - Emergency and fire
  • 0900-8844 - Police for small to moderate emergencies

Conclusion

Without such rules, DB Work would not be able to offer its employees all the contractual advantages that every professional who goes to work in the Netherlands enjoys. If you too want to take your career to the next level, check our vacancies frequently.
